Fallout 4 offers many customization options for armor, including the power armor. Normal armor has 2 different mods to choose from, but vault jumpsuits have one. Power armor is different because you can mod each piece of the armor. You need high-rank Armorer perks for all armor and also Science for vault jumpsuits and power armor.
I'll go over the types of mods you can use in armor and what you need to make them. Check out my Fallout 4 Weapon Mod Crafting guide if you want info on weapons.
This guide will go over everything about crafting armor and power armor mods including:
- Armor Mod Crafting Basics - How to craft mods, perks needed, and examples of materials.
- Advanced Armor Mod Crafting - Each armor category and the mods you can craft for each.
Armor Mod Crafting Basics
You need an armor workbench to mod regular armor and a Power Armor station to mod power armor. Both are found throughout the world, or crafted at your settlement if you have rank 2 Local Leader perk.
Perks
If you want to make the best armor you can, you'll need the right perks.
- Armorer (Str 3) - Allows you to craft mods for armor.
- Rank 2 - Level 13
- Rank 3 - Level 25
- Rank 4 - Level 39
- Science (Int 6) - Allows you to craft high-tech mods.
- Rank 2 - Level 17
- Rank 3 - Level 28
- Rank 4 - Level 41
Download zoo tycon 2. You can also use the Blacksmith perk if you plan on doing melee damage in your power armor.

Materials
Every armor mod needs Adhesive, but the rest depend on the piece. Most pieces of armor use some of the items below.
- Cloth
- Fiberglass
- Steel
- Screw
- Aluminum
- Rubber
Power armor mods usually need extra things like circuitry, nuclear material, and other science materials. Grab anything you come across while exploring, then break it down for materials when you go to a settlement.
Note: If you use an item during crafting instead of breaking it down for materials, you lose any extra materials that the item has that are not used in the recipe.
Advanced Armor Mod Crafting
I'll separate into 2 categories, normal armor and power armor. Dead space pc mods. All normal armor have 2 mod options, vault jumpsuits are different.
Normal Armor

All power armor have the same mods for the first 2 slots.
- Model - Increases damage and energy resistance.

Leg
- Misc Mod - Increases carrying capacity, sprint speed, action point refresh speed, or increase radius for impact landing.

OK, here’s a quick Fallout 4 guide for everyone, as compared to our many other comprehensive guides that you can find by clicking here. A lot of new players seem to have trouble with one tiny aspect of Fallout 4, specifically exiting your Power Armor. So here’s how to do this…
How to get out of Power Armor on All Consoles:
Default settings on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC:
- Xbox Controller: press and hold A button.
- Playstation Controller: press and hold X (Cross button).
- PC Keyboard: press and hold E key.
Simply hold A or X or E if you are on Xbox One, PS4, or PC respectively. Essentially, whatever button you used to get in, hold it down and you’ll hop out. This means if you changed your control scheme you’ll use something else, so make sure you check.
Now, since that was so simple, here’s a few tips for how to manage your Power Armor once you’ve exited it. First up, always find a nice place to store it. If you can, get to a location with a Power Armor station. To get the suit on there you simply want to exit it nearby, and it will be situated the next time you stop by.
Even without a Power Armor station though, you want to get to a spot that you can fast travel to later. Any location that you’ve discovered should do, but settlements that you own are ideal, as they won’t be swarming with enemies upon your next arrival.
You want to do this because you’ll have to get back to your Power Armor at some point, and you don’t want to go traveling around in the wasteland to find it. Also, make sure you have extra Fusion Cores on you if you’re going somewhere that you can’t fast travel out of for a while. We’ll have a guide for where to find extra Fusion Cores so click the link above to check it out if you need more.
Need to Get out of Power Armor in Fallout 76? The way Power Armor works in the new Fallout game is a little bit different. You can check out these guides for Power Armor in Fallout 76.

Fallout 4 Wiki Guides & Walkthroughs
Navigate the wastelands with these guides to help you along the way.
Other than the iffy settlement system, one of the most anticipated changes to the Fallout universe, touted for inclusion in part 4, was the ability to custom build and maintain your own set of personal power armor.
While there are some fun options for changing paint jobs, head light colors, and armor ability loadouts, there are thousands more options just waiting to be utilized thanks to the dedicated modding community.
Here we're rounding up eight excellent mods that change how the power armor crafting system works, massively increases customization, or even replaces power armor entirely with more interesting armor builds.
Configure Fusion Core Drain
Being able to configure the rate at which cores drain is an incredibly helpful addition for anyone getting into Fallout 4 for the first time.
Modify Power Armor Fallout 4 Download
The very fast standard drain speed makes it difficult to actually use power armor for any significant period of time while playing a straight run through (without giving yourself tons of extra cores through the console anyway).
Just want a slightly easier experience? Set it to 75%. Want to do away with core hunting altogether? Set it to 0%!
Animation Changes
For a change not just of the actual armor itself but how all armor behaves, you can download this mod to mix up the idle stance, quick enter/exit, and instant enter/exit animations. The instant option also makes you pop in or out of your suit immediately without having to wait on a lengthy animation sequence.
The soundtrack in this game is probably my favorite soundtrack ever, I truly love it, just fits together so well. Overlord 2 cheats. You have a vast amount of items to buy, just like the first game 2 armor sets, a whack of weapons and decorations for the Netherworld.
Clean Power Armor HUD
The HUD noticeably changes when you get into power armor, which makes sense, but some people really don't like how it looks with the big bulky display. This very simple mod erases most of the HUD, offering a very clean and simple display that takes up much less of the screen real estate.
Skyrim Power Armor
Want to add a bit more of a dark fantasy element or bring some of Bethesda's other major game into your wasteland?
This mod adds in a new set of TES-51 power armor that can be found at the Bethesda Comics building. In addition to the base armor, there's extra paint job and weapon options to go along with it.
Liberty Power Armor
Remember citizens, democracy is non-negotiable! You too can now bring American democracy (and a whole lot of pain) to the raiders of the wasteland with this stylish Liberty Prime inspired power armor.
Courser X-92 Power Suit
As a total replacement for power armor, this sleek outfit features a complete Pip-Boy redesign and lets you use power armor fusion cores as consumables to get stat bonuses instead.
There's some really interesting additions with the power suit, like night vision and a targeting module -- which probably should be in power armor anyway. Plus, it's fun to go through the wasteland as a courser synth this time around!
Armorsmith Extended
This is one mod that packs a hell of a punch with a ridiculous amount of content for clothing, creating more options outside of power armor. Allowing outfits to be worn under armor and bandannas to be worn with helmets is a big boon on its own, but that's just the least of what is offered here.
A ridiculous number of new outfits are added in, and now every single piece of clothing is moddable, increasing the armor crafting options to an exponential degree. You can also completely change Nick Valentine's appearance, as the option becomes available to equip him with all this new modded clothing.
Worsin's Immersive Power Armor Garage
![Modify power armor fallout 4 1 Modify power armor fallout 4 1](/uploads/1/2/3/2/123231171/244871272.jpeg)
We saved the best for last! This huge mod doesn't just add in more than 100 paint styles and decals for your existing armor, which is huge by itself, but significantly changes the power armor crafting system with tons of new mods and wearable pieces.
Seriously, just install this one already and go crazy putting together whatever color and piece combo you've ever dreamed up.
What sort of crazy power armor are you going to build with these mods, and what excellent armor mods did we miss that should have made the list? Let us know in the comments!
